independent reading 2

In my next reading we see that Katniss is saying her good byes to all her friends and family. Katnisse’s friend Madge comes in to the room that Katniss is being held in and givers her a gold pin. Next, Katniss aboards a train. Here we find out that the area Katniss lived in(district 12), is actually the Appalachian Mts. This says that Katniss must live in most likely western Pennsylvania, or from Maine down to Georgia.

We also find out that the capital city, Panem is where the Rocky Mts are. Another event that happens is that Haymitch, a person who is supposed to be advising the kids gets drunk, is drinking the next morning. So Peeta who is another tribute from district 12 knocks a drink out of his hand. So Haymitch pucnches him and Katniss puts her knife in the table.

After seeing this Haymitch strikes the question, what else can you do with that knife, and Katniss shows him by throwing it at the wall. After seeing this, Haymith decides to actualy agree to help the kids but only if they don’t interfere with him. At the end we see that Peeta is just waving to the people of Panem and says to Katniss he;s doing this because he believes some of them may hold wealth. Being the competetor she is Katniss realizes Peeta as a threat.

When I go and look back at the feedback I see from Mr Heidt I see that there is still a lot of work to do for my “Who am I as a Reader and Writer” pieces. The thing that Mr heidt emphasized the most in my feedback was that I needed to tie my metaphor more into my writing and this is something that he said for both pieces.Another thing that stood out in the feedback was his praise for my explanation for my strengths and weaknesses. So what I plan on doing with my writing is going back and adding dialogue that connects back to the metaphor in both pieces.

independent reading one

The book I started reading is the hunger games by Suzanne Collins. The story so far is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen and her family living in the 12th district. Every year there is an annual event called the Hunger Games and her sister , Primrose, was chosen to participate in it.Instead of letting her sister participate in this Katniss volunteers herself to participate in the games.

The setting of the Hunger Games reminds me of a setting in my life, North Korea. This is because of how strict and secure it is. The first thing is the gate. This reminds me of North Korea because just like in North Korea there is a gate around the border that you are forbidden from escaping.Another thing similar to North Korea is the fact that you will be executed for going against or being accused of going against the government.

A third thing that makes it similar to North Korea is that even though the people work hard the government gets the rewards. This is because the protagonist Katniss explains how many people will get many injuries and deformities because she lives in the coal mining district, but they can’t do anything about it because they are very poor. Event though North Korea and the setting are very similar they are somewhat different as the setting has districts and the government has less control.

Reflection 2

The work I’ve done has helped me move closer to building a stronger relationship as a student and learner because know I have gotten to see more of my strengths and weaknesses and also set new goals form myself. An example of this is the intro to the grade-less system, as in the grade-less system instead of setting the goal of just getting work done, I know have to set the goal of putting quality work that betters me. The work I’ve done has helped me move closer to building relationships with other students in the class and develop a stronger community of readers and writers because we get to have interactions with other students that betters us and also we better them with advice and tips to their writing. An example of this is the who am I as a reader/who am I as a writer, because in this everyone get helpful advice that betters them which helps form the community of writers and readers. The thing that as worked best for me is the peer response group because I get to see voices that are non- biased towards my writing and are trying to help me better as a learner. The thing that can use improvement I the free write because you don’t really get to her others and it’s too self dependent because no piece of writing is perfect but it can become bettered through the help of others.
