In my reading we see that Katniss and Peeta are about to meet their stylist, Cinna who weirdly choose to style the 12th district. Cinna chooses out a costume for Katniss that to try and standout she will put synthetic fire. Cinna also does the same for Peeta as she wants them to match. When the spectators in the plaza saw their costumes they are easily amused.
After this they go to the training center where while Effie is raving about Katniss and Peeta to the spectators Katniss is looking around and marveling the training center. While Katniss is being served she realizes that she knows one of the servers. When Effie here this she snaps and Haymitch and Peeta have to help cover her tracks.
Katniss then goes to the roof with Peeta as this is the only place where they can’t be heard by anyone. Katniss starts to tell Peeta the story of how she knows one of the servers. She says that her and gale were hunting in the woods and they saw a girl and boy. Then a hovercraft appeared and took the girl and killed the boy with a spear. She also said this haunts her more because she locked eyes with the girl.
